Meta announced it has hired MongoDBās outgoing president and CEO, Chirantan āCJāāÆDesai, to lead a new enterpriseāAI platform that the companyās founder MarkāÆZuckerberg called āthe next major pillar of our business.ā The news sent MongoDBās shares plunging as much as 27āÆ% on Monday, hitting a nearātwoāmonth low.
The move underscores Metaās bet on selling AI tools and infrastructure to corporate customers. In a post on X, Zuckerberg highlighted Desaiās experience building fullāstack software and delivering results in AI, infrastructure, business applications, and security. āHe has an extensive industry network that we look forward to partnering with,ā Zuckerberg wrote.
Meta has been at the forefront of the consumerāAI wave with its newly released personal agent, Muse. The productās strong launch has already reshaped the AI trade, and the hiring of Desai signals the companyās intent to extend that momentum into the enterprise space.
Desaiās tenure at MongoDB lasted roughly eleven months, but before that he spent many years growing prominent enterprise platforms. He spent nearly eight years at ServiceNow and a year at Cloudflare, giving him deep expertise in largeāscale software and AI integration.
By poaching one of the top executives in the database world, Meta is making a clear statement: it is going allāin on enterprise software and will pull in the best talent to do it. Investors reacted by pricing in the new threat to traditional enterprise platforms, which earlier this year were already rattled by the AIādriven āSaaSpocalyse.ā
In a LinkedIn post, Desai predicted that the next wave of technology will see businesses of all sizes reinventing entire workflows with AI, and that Meta will likely lead that movement. He also noted that Metaās ārare advantageā lies in its advanced AI models, largeāscale infrastructure, and agents, combined with an ecosystem that already helps millions of advertisers and hundreds of millions of businesses grow. āBringing those strengths together creates the opportunity to build an entirely new enterprise platform,ā he said.
The news comes as Wall Streetās confidence in Meta has been largely restored after Museās highāprofile debut, making the shift toward enterprise AI a fresh challenge for both rival software makers and the broader market.
