While London’s Westminster Abbey is the location for the Royal Coronation of King Charles III on May 6, 2023, the Edge at Hudson Yards in New York City will host a special English tea party two months earlier.
On Tuesday, March 28, the 100-stories high observation deck will feature a traditional high tea service provided by Peak at Hudson Yards. The event takes place from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and includes some delights relating to royal history and pageantry.
“The event will encapsulate the community spirit of a Great British street party while also bringing in elements of a traditional British afternoon tea,” said Tracy Halliwell MBE, Visit London’s director of tourism.
The tea service will feature a selection of teas and specialty foods from Fortnum & Mason, a London retail institution dating back to 1707. The company has a long history of supplying tea to the British Royal Household.
Other elements of British culture are planned to be introduced via a round of royal trivia presented by royal super fan Donna Werner. This trivia game will provide the chance to win special prizes.
There’s another reason for this special party planning. According to Halliwell, the United States is London’s biggest tourism market. Additionally, Halliwell cited that both London and New York City being seen as cosmopolitan destinations for culture seekers is something to be celebrated.
Along with the Royal Coronation, London’s 2023 is welcoming the continuation of the NFL London Games and the MLB London Series. Other major events this year include Pride in London, London Fashion Week, and Notting Hill Carnival.
“We were keen to invite New Yorkers and those visiting to learn more about what London has to offer for tourists this year,” said Halliwell.
As part of their ticket admission, partygoers can access the Edge’s outdoor sky deck, which is said to be the highest in the Western Hemisphere. Tickets are priced at $38 and limited to only 100; they can be purchased through this website.
