The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) showcases many amazing products every year. My favorite from this year was the Enabot Ebo X family robot companion. And it is finally ready for the market, as it goes on pre-order via the 45-day Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign.
Enabot is striving to make the Ebo X the first commercialized household robot in the global robotics industry, and they might just do it. You can save up to 43% at a special price of USD 569 before it becomes available for sale online in select e-commerce platforms at a retail price of USD 999.
The Ebo X home robot is a home robot that offers a slew of features. It can serve as a guardian with its home security and health alert system, alongside being a cute companion and playmate for your family.
The Ebo X features a compact soccer-sized spherical body. Under the hood lies a X3M chip, which is built using a dual-core BPU structure and can perform 5 trillion operations per second. I’ll put it to test soon in my review process. The chip is responsible for creating a map of your home using V-SLAM technology to allow precise area division. It is similar to how robot vacuum cleaners map your home.
I like the two-wheeled self-balancing design that gives it the ability to move around the house. The built-in sensors help it to avoid any potential harm caused by accidentally crossing boundaries or running into objects.
The Ebo X sports an 8MP 4K camera with a one-axis stabilization system alongside a four-microphone array and reliable far-field sound sensors, which lets it dentify the source of the sound accurately. The speaker is powered by Harman AudioEFX, and I have high expectations from it.
You can ask it to play songs via Alexa, or fit it into your smart-home system. If your child says “Ebo Ebo, follow me!” , the Ebo X will follow them wherever they go. If a child is crying or anyone at home is experiencing an emergency and calling for “Help”, the Ebo X will detect it and trigger an app call to the users.
The one feature I’m looking forward to test is Elderly Fall Alert. It can detect if an elderly person has fallen via its pose inspection algorithm. You can also use the app to set up medication reminder that triggers the device to identify the elderly family member through facial recognition and provide voice reminders about the medications. It sounds useful on paper but it will be interesting to see how it performs in real-life.
As you can probably tell, the Ebo X will interpret a lot of your data to work. The company says that the device is made with privacy protection as a priority. All your content can be stored on a local memory card. You also get an on-off toggle switch in the app to deactivate the camera, a physical shutter to cover the camera, and a privacy button on the Ebo X to shut off both the camera and microphone.
