Customize vehicle appearance and protect paint from damage with one durable product
Paint Protection Film (PPF) is a thin, durable layer applied to a vehicle’s painted panels to shield them from chips, scratches, and other damage. Traditionally, PPF has been transparent, available in both glossy and matte finishes, allowing the original paint color to always show through. Now, XPEL—a global leader in automotive protection—has released COLOR PPF. The new product line, offered in more than a dozen colors, lets vehicle owners safeguard their paint and customize the look of their cars, trucks, or SUVs, all with one protective film.
Until recently, drivers had to choose between changing the color of their vehicle with a vinyl wrap or protecting their paint with a transparent PPF. It was an either/or question. Vinyl wraps are offered in a rainbow of colors and finishes, but the material is only about 4 mils thick; it is not resistant to cuts and tears, and it only lasts a few years before needing replacement. PPF is a transparent multi-layer film, 7-11 mils thick, engineered to protect the paint and resist impacts—it is very durable for longevity.
XPEL’s COLOR PPF combines the best of both worlds—color changing and paint protection—with a single product. The film is 8 mils thick—similar to the company’s Ultimate Plus PPF—but the layers are different as the COLOR PPF incorporates the pigmented Thermoplastic Urethane (TPU) layer above a clear TPU layer in the middle of the film sandwich (both are fused together during the co-extrusion process). XPEL says the COLOR PPF provides “a finish that looks nearly indistinguishable from factory paint.”
Mirroring its other PPF products, XPEL has engineered COLOR PPF to be extremely tough and durable. The thick urethane defends paint from gravel, pebbles, sand, and other debris that may hit the vehicle. And the film protects the paint from bug splatter, bird droppings, acid rain, hard water, and sap. Best of all, the protection does not diminish over time. And unlike vinyl wraps, which often fade or peel within a few years and don’t provide proper paint protection, COLOR PPF comes with a 10-year warranty.
“At XPEL, we’ve always focused on helping customers drive with confidence, knowing their vehicle’s paint is well-protected,” said Chris DiMinico, Director of Products at XPEL. “COLOR PPF takes that mission to the next level. It allows owners to completely transform the look of their vehicle without sacrificing protection, durability, or long-term resale value. With 16 incredible colors available at launch, there’s an option to suit nearly every personality and style.”
According to the company, COLOR PPF draws inspiration from iconic automotive finishes—from Molten Orange to Moss Green to Monza Red—enabling drivers to refresh their vehicle’s appearance or create a completely custom look. And, just like transparent PPF, vehicle owners may choose to wrap their entire vehicle or accent specific pieces, such as a roof, hood, or mirrors. “Whether you want to give your car a bold, new look or simply refresh its appearance while adding protection, COLOR PPF is a smart, long-lasting solution,” added DiMinico.
Proper application of paint protection film (PPF) requires specialized training, tools, and experience. Therefore, COLOR PPF installations are done exclusively by authorized XPEL dealers using XPEL’s proprietary DAP software to ensure precise fitting. The installation cost varies based on several factors, including the specific product used, the surface area to be covered, and the installer’s skill. A simple installation can start at around $500, while a full vehicle wrap for a large truck or SUV can exceed $8,000. For more information, visit xpel.com.
