Greenland-associated energy equities climbed on Wednesday, driven by President Trump’s recent remarks regarding significant U.S. oil and gas extraction activities in the Arctic island nation.
The upward movement began following Trump’s post on Truth Social announcing imminent drilling initiatives in Greenland.
“Massive Oil, Gas, and Mineral Exploration is gearing up to start in our stunning Greenland!” he declared. “Experts indicate that easily accessible reserves exceed those found across nearly any global location.”
Key price movements occurred immediately after trading commenced on Wednesday:
While Critical Metals Corp isn’t based in Greenland, it owns the Tanbreez Rare Earth Project, a large rare earth mine located in the southern part of the island.
A response from Greenland, however, challenged Trump’s announcements regarding mining and mineral development initiatives.
Jørgen Hammeken-Holm, who serves as its deputy mining minister, told CNN that while U.S. company activity exists, these efforts remain “very far from massive” exploration and that smaller projects could take years to become operational.
The market’s reaction underscores that investors are taking the situation seriously. Trump’s second term transformed rare earth shares into one of 2025’s most actively traded assets as he established White House stakes in numerous related companies.
Now, Greenland equities may follow a comparable trajectory as Trump continues emphasizing deeper American engagement with the territory.
