Topline
Donald Trump posted his mug shot on X, formerly known as Twitter, Thursday evening following his arrest and booking at Fulton County Jail for election charges—marking Trump’s return to the social media platform that helped launch his political career, after a years-long absence that began after the January 6 riot.
Key Facts
The mug shot, which was captioned with the words “ELECTION INTERFERENCE!” and “NEVER SURRENDER,” was Trump’s first post on X since January 8, 2021.
Trump was permanently suspended from the platform “due to the risk of further incitement of violence,” according to a statement from the company, which issued the suspension two days after the January 6 U.S. Capitol riot.
The suspension was lifted last year after billionaire Elon Musk bought the company, but Trump remained off Twitter, instead posting on his rival platform Truth Social.
Trump also published the same post on Truth Social on Thursday, hours after he took to the platform to share his arrest time and criticize Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.
Trump’s mug shot was released not long after his booking in Atlanta, which came as a result of 13 felony counts made against the former president earlier this month.
