Lying in the heart of rural Northumberland, the expansive Grade II* listed Matfen Hall offers wellness, golf, fine dining, spa or relaxing retreat in grandeur and opulence.
Built as Country Manor in the mid-1830s as the former seat of the Blacketts Baronets, Matfen Halls was leased to the Leonard Cheshire Foundation for nursing home care for 30 years before becoming a 31-room hotel in 1999.
After an expansion to 54 rooms, and the construction of the spa and leisure facilities in 2004, it was finally purchased by Walwick Estate Group in 2020. Its £15 million refurbishment came to fruition through the winter of 2022 and re-opened on Good Friday in April 2023 in its current glorious appearance.

There are 65 rooms ranging from Luxury Suite and Luxury Rooms to Classic.
Laurent Perrier champagne is served on arrival in the Luxury Suite and Luxury Room.
Food and Drink
There are six dining areas, each distinct in feel. The Emerald, led by Head Chef Ernts van Zyl, for elegent fine dining;
The Cloisters Restaurant and Bar for a slightly more relaxed open space;
Afternoon Tea is served in The Orangery under new Head Pastry Chef Laurens Le Gal.
Other dining spaces include Needham, The Wine Cellar and the 1832 bar.
Other Activities
The hotel boasts 27 holes of championship-level golf , of There are 10 driving range bays, each with a Toptracer system for shot analysis.
In fair weather, guests can try their hand at clay pigeon shooting, archery or falconry, amongst several country pursuits. If you are of good fitness, you can walk for an hour each way and seem remnants of Hadrian’s wall.
