Indian star Ajith Kumar’s new film Vidaamuyarchi made its debut on Netflix last week and has now been ranked among most-viewed non-English films worldwide on the platform. Directed by Magizh Thirumeni, the new Tamil film Vidaamuyarchi also features Trisha Krishnan and Regina Cassandra and landed online on March 3.
Two Indian films, one show on Netflix Global Top 10 list
Netflix has released the weekly list of most-watched films and shows. Two Indian films and one show have made it to the latest lists. The Hindi web show Dabba Cartel made it to the list of most-watched non-English shows this week while Hindi film Nadaaniyan and Tamil film Vidaamuyarchi were listed among most-watched non-English films for the week ending March 9.
Ajith’s Vidaamuyarchi 7th most-watched non-English films on Netflix worldwide
Vidaamuyarchi registered 3 million views on Netflix in its debut week. Headlined by Ajith, the movie also recorded 7.7 million watch hours on the platform. This is the first week on Netflix for the film. The Tamil film is also available in Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada dubbed versions on Netflix.
Loosely based on the premise of the 1997 film Breakdown, Vidaamuyarchi tells the story of an estranged couple that fell apart with time but are thrown in an unexpected scenario where they support each other. When it hit theatres on February 6, Vidaamuyarchi received mixed reviews, and the performances and action sequences were widely appreciated. Scoring more than $15 million at the ticket windows, Vidaamuyarchi became the top grossing Tamil film of 2025.
Hindi film Nadaaniyan is 5th most-watched non-English film
Nadaaniyan made it to the fifth spot on Netflix’s list of most-watched non-English films in the week ending March 9. Directed by debutant Shauna Gauatam, the romantic film recorded 3.9 million views and 7.8 million watch-hours on Netflix in its debut week.
Khan makes his acting debut in a lead role with Nadaaniyan which also marks Kapoor’s third film. Both the lead actors fail to display impressive acting talents and add to the overall disappointing experience of watching the film. Critics have also panned Nadaaniyan for lack of depth to the narrative as well as characters. From debating associations choosing the head on the basis of abs to rich kids bullying another rich one in school for a lack of class, an unrealistic portrayal of the younger generation makes things worse.
Ibrahim Ali Khan is the son of Bollywood stars Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh. Khushi Kapoor is the daughter of late Indian star Sridevi and film producer Boney Kapoor. She made her debut in 2023 with the Netflix original Archies, the Indian adaptation of the American sitcom The Archie Show.
Dabba Cartel is sixth most-watched non-English shows on Netflix
Shibani Dandekar Akhtar’s India original show Dabba Cartel ranked on the sixth slot on Netflix’s latest list of most-watched non-English shows on the platform.
