Big layoffs are on the horizon for Airtable.
The company’s new owner, Italian tech conglomerate Bending Spoons, announced on Monday that it will cut a ‘large part’ of its staff while reshaping the organization around smaller teams and AI-driven features.
In a post on X, Federico Simionato, product leader at Bending Spoons, emphasized that the layoffs do not reflect employee performance but stem from the firm’s conviction that ‘small teams ship more and better.’
‘To everyone leaving: thank you. If you’re hiring, these are excellent people and worth a call,’ Simionato added.
Bending Spoons revealed in August its acquisition of Airtable, the spreadsheet鈥慳nd鈥慸atabase platform, for $1.28鈥痓illion.
The exact number of affected employees remains unclear; a Bending Spoons spokesperson said they cannot disclose further details on the impact count.
Airtable product lead Alessandro Savarese noted in a company blog post that departing staff will receive substantial separation packages and will exit by week鈥檚 end.
‘At Bending Spoons we have witnessed how smaller, agile teams with clear responsibilities can deliver outsized results, and we aim to bring that same approach to Airtable,’ Savarese wrote. ‘Our goal is to enhance Airtable鈥檚 product while delivering outstanding reliability and support to customers.’
Savarese also said the focus will shift to strengthening Airtable鈥檚 core platform and expanding AI capabilities.
