Kroger intends to slash roughly 3,000 corporate jobs over the coming three years to streamline its operations.
In a memo to employees that the firm shared with Themoneytimes, CEO Greg Foran explained that cutting these corporate roles will free up resources to invest in front鈥憀ine staff.
He added, “Our business is becoming leaner, more focused and more competitive.”
The ex鈥慦almart U.S. chief, who assumed leadership of Kroger earlier this year, has been driving price cuts and tightening operations during the past several months.
Foran also pointed to the influence of technology on the century鈥憃ld retailer, noting that it warrants a thorough review of where work can be performed.

FROM: Desk of Greg Foran inbox TO: All company RE: Changes to Our Organization
We shared key details on today鈥檚 all鈥慼ands call and are following up to ensure everyone understands the upcoming changes. As a company, we have made strong progress on many fronts with our customers.
We have begun lowering prices and enhancing the shopping experience both in stores and online, and we have invested in technology that simplifies work for our associates. Our business is becoming leaner, more focused and more competitive.
We are striving to be more agile, more precise in execution, and to deliver value to customers, associates and shareholders. This transformation will also lead to fewer positions across the company, meaning we will reduce our corporate workforce by about 3,000 roles over the next three years across various functions.
These cuts will enable us to continue investing in our front鈥憀ine associates. These are tough decisions, and we do not take them lightly.
This is the right move for the company鈥檚 long鈥憈erm future. Here鈥檚 why:
– Simplifying our operations is essential. Simplification means faster decision鈥憁aking and directing resources where they have the greatest impact, so we can offer lower prices and a better customer experience. Our organization currently has excess layers, handoffs and overhead, which we are addressing.
– Technology is reshaping what is possible. The way work is performed is evolving across every sector; we must adapt and leverage technology. We need to adopt new capabilities, eliminate duplicated effort and examine where work is best suited to be done.
We have the chance to reshape roles into broader responsibilities and speed up decision鈥憁aking. This allows us to shift critical resources nearer to the customer, lowering prices, investing in our associates and improving the shopping experience.
When and how this will happen: These reductions will unfold over several years. We will provide updates as they become available.
We anticipate that notifications about affected roles will begin in the coming months. Our values at work: During these challenging times, we will remain guided by Our Values.
We will communicate directly with impacted associates as decisions are made, and we will not ask anyone to wait longer than needed for clarity about their role. We are grateful for each of you.
Together with the Kroger Leadership Team, we are committed to steering the company through this period with transparency, integrity and respect.
Greg
