European ferry operator DFDS has unveiled its latest research into the continent’s most popular places to skate this winter. The study looked at Google search activity for over 75 seasonal ice rinks during the peak festive months between December to February.
From landmark city rinks to lesser-known seasonal gems, these findings outline both well-known and loved skating destinations and up-and-coming rinks that have rapidly gained traction this year.
Grand Palais de Glaces in Paris, France
The Grand Palais de Glaces in Paris, France topped the list as Europe’s most sought-after rink this year. The study showed that search interested has climbed an impressive 83% year over year. The infamous ice rink within the Grand Palais has a relatively short shelf life—it’s open from December 13 to January 7—but the late-night sessions really make the most of the season with nighttime skates beneath the illuminated dome open until 2 a.m.
Vienna Ice World in Vienna, Austria
Transforming the grand square in front of Vienna City Hall into a seasonal ice rink, Vienna Ice World was the second most popular seasonal rink on the list. It boasts 10,000 square meters of interconnected ice and is open for most of the winter season, from January 22 to March 8.
Ice Rink at Heumarkt in Cologne, Germany
Tucked into Cologne’s historic Altstadt, the Ice Rink at Heumarky runs from November 24 to January 4. It saw a 16% increase in search year over year and is well-loved for its chalet-inspired food stalls, artisan vendors, and mulled wine stands.
Matadero Madrid Ice Rink in Madrid, Spain
The Matadero Madrid Ice Rink is an open-air rink that is set on a former industrial site. The space is totally transformed into a festive arts space with performance and exhibitions flaking the rink itself. This rink saw an 8% increase in search year over year, earning it fourth spot on the list.
Old Town Ice Rink in Tallinn, Estonia
The Old Town Ice Rink in Tallinn, Estonia is one of the fastest-emerging skating hotspots for the 2025/2026 season. Tucked into Tallinn’s Old Town, this stunning rink is open from late November to early March and boasts classic wooden stalls, stunning seasonal decor, and views of the medieval towers of Tallinn.
