Apple introduced the super-thin iPhone Air in September 2025. It has a strikingly different look from the iPhone 17 series released alongside. A new report suggests that the successor to this phone won’t be released when the iPhone 18 series is, but when it comes, it will have a significant update, that many have been wanting: a second camera.
iPhone Air 2: Release Date
According to a report in The Information, the iPhone Air’s successor won’t be out in 2026 as many had presumed. It said the phone had been delayed and a later report suggested that we should expect the next model to arrive in 2027, but in the spring, rather than the fall.
Is it a delay? Leaving aside the existential question of whether a product that hasn’t been announced can actually be delayed, I’d suggest that Apple was keeping its options open. First of all, by not putting the number 17 in the name of the iPhone Air, as most analysts had been predicting, there’s greater leeway as to when a successor might come along, in terms of public expectations.
Second, if the rumors of an iPhone Fold coming in fall 2026 are right, then the iPhone Air 2 would have been lost in the noise.
So, I think it’s possible Apple was keeping an open mind as to when it will arrive.
But if you’re angling for the second-gen Air, there’s good news in the report as well.
iPhone Air 2: Cameras
It turns out the battery in the iPhone Air is decent enough to get you through the day with ease, against the expectations of many. But the other concern for some users was the camera. There’s only one lens on the back of the iPhone Air, because all the components in the phone are sitting under the raised camera bump, leaving the rest of the insides to be almost all battery.
According to The Information, the next Apple iPhone Air will come with two cameras. For many people, that will be enough to make the iPhone Air 2 a compelling people.
