With less than a month until release, Metroid Prime 4 has received some very interesting and thorough gameplay breakdowns that look very impressive.
Firstly, there’s the official Nintendo breakdown video (shown below), which goes through each of the new elements the game has to offer.
The biggest part is about Samus’ new psychic abilities, facilitated by a purple jewel attached to her forehead.
These abilities bring all manner of interesting gameplay elements, such as being able to guide shots with your mind in weird and wonderful ways, as well as more involved level-design related puzzles.
As Sylux is also the main antagonist now, you also see the return of the Galactic Federation Troopers, and these will help you out as you progress through the game.
Secondly, there’s the new gameplay hands-on from Game Informer (shown below), and the big takeaway is that the mouse controls for the Switch 2 version of the game actually work.
The fact that it’s also hands-on from a third party helps give these mouse controls credibility, and I cannot wait to try them out myself.
We also have confirmation that the open-world section we saw in previous videos is the Sol Valley hub area, where you use the funky bike Vi-O-La to traverse.
The game’s world of Viewros also looks sumptuous throughout, and the fact that the game supports HDR and a 120Hz performance mode is genuinely amazing to me.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is released for Switch 2 and Switch on December 4.
