Say the name Lamborghini, and people tend to get a dreamy look in their eyes. The supercar builder may have started life making tractors (if you’ve watched Jeremy Clarkson’s Farm, you’ll know he’s a big fan), but the brand transcended farm equipment long ago. Big engines, sleek bodies, bold colors, and unique names honoring the bullfighting tradition are all hallmarks of the Italian company, and it continues to unleash marvelous machines on a regular basis. That includes the Lamborghini Urus SE, the latest version of the automaker’s popular SUV.
Starting at $262,359 (including a $3,995 delivery fee), the Lamborghini Urus SE is powered by a a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with an electric motor for a total of 789 horsepower and 700 lb-ft of torque. That motor delivers a few surprises that veer sharply from the Raging Bull’s heritage: all-electric range and a quiet mode.
The Silent Scream Of The Lamborghini Urus SE
The electric motor provides 37 miles of all-electric range, which is nice to sneak out of your driveway without alerting the neighbors. However, it’s the strangest sensation when you flip the iconic red shroud to press the start button to be greeted with… silence.
That’s right: the Urus SE defaults to all-electric mode for startup. It takes a little getting used to, especially for someone who looks forward to the inevitable thrill a Lamborghini produces with every rev. There’s a benefit to the stealth mode a quiet startup provides, however, and certainly it responds eagerly as soon as the drive mode is set to Sport mode. Then, the Urus SE comes alive.
Lamborghini Urus SE Drive Modes: Something For Everyone
The Urus SE starts in Strada (Italian for street) mode, with the option to amp it up to Sport or Corsa (for track driving), or you may use specialized modes like Sabbia for driving in sand, Terra for off-road routes, and Neve in the snow.
On the electrified side, the Urus SE also includes choices for all-EV, Hybrid (the most balanced and efficient option), and Recharge, which uses the engine to recharge the battery while driving. If you want to squeeze the vroom as much as possible, set it up for Performance mode to harness the maximum power of both the battery and gasoline engine together. Plus, there is Ego mode to customized the drive settings.
Inside The Lamborghini Urus SE: Beauty, Not Beast
At the base price, every Urus SE includes a sumptuous interior using premium leather, carbon fiber, and aluminum materials, plus exclusive stitching on the seats. The controls are set up like a fighter jet, and moving forward requires first pressing the push-to-start button and then pulling the right gear shifter toward you to drive.
For the vehicle I drove, Lamborghini added three extra leather packages for roughly $10,000 more, plus a super-deluxe 3D Bang and Olufsen audio setup ($7,468), panoramic roof ($3,354), privacy glass ($2,200), and more. Resplendent in a special dark purple Lamborghini calls Viola Galaxias, the Urus SE cost a total of $336,669 including the $13,384 paint job.
If you’re going to drive a Lamborghini, why not go all in and choose a distinct finish? Choose from dozens of colors on the automaker’s online configuration page. My personal choice is a dark and mysterious Blu Astraeus.
Want to spend less for a sport SUV? Check out the Audi RSQ8 or Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid, each for $100,000 or less. While both of these are high-quality, excellent SUVs, neither matches the Lamborghini Urus SE; especially when the Raging Bull is at full power.
