Ozzy Osbourne, who became a heavy metal icon as the singer of legendary rock group Black Sabbath and later as a solo artist, died on Tuesday, the BBC reported. He was 76.
Osbourne — who also starred with his wife, Sharon Osbourne and their children Jack and Kelly in the MTV reality show The Osbournes from 2002 to 2005 — was battling Parkinson’s disease.
“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning,” the Osbourne family said in a statement (via the BBC). “He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”
Osbourne, the voice behind such Black Sabbath classics as “Iron Man” and “Paranoid,” and “Crazy Train,” “Mr. Crowley” and “Mama, I’m Coming Home” as a solo artist, performed at the Back to the Beginning farewell concert with his original Black Sabbath bandmates Bill Ward Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler on July 5.
