It’s been awhile, dearest Strandistas, but I have returned and in greater numbers. Okay, that’s a lie. It’s still just me. We can’t all be Sand People. In any case, it’s Saturday and we have a grid filled with words to uncover. Let’s get digging!
Strands is the newest game in the New York Times’ stable of puzzle games. It’s a fun twist on classic word search games. Every day we’re given a new theme and then tasked with uncovering all the words on the grid that fit that theme, including a spangram that spans two sides of the board, revealing more about the rest of the words on the grid.

Today’s Strands Hints
Read on for today’s theme and some hints to help you uncover today’s words. Instead of giving you the first two letters of each word, today I’m giving out three hints instead of two.
Today’s Theme:
Hint: Sports.
Clue: Specifically, women’s sports.

This one was pretty tricky, mostly because even once I had a couple words I still had no clue what they could possibly be in terms of a theme. I’m not big into sports and I’m certainly not knowledgeable when it comes to the WNBA, so it wasn’t until I’d gotten several words and then found the spangram, BASKETBALL, that I put two and two together. At that point, it wasn’t hard to dig up MERCURY and STORM and so forth.
