With the luxury market in Egypt expanding, it only makes sense that luxury dining, development and retail experiences would begin to grow in the Egyptian capital. Leading the charge is developer SODIC, who is behind popular upcoming developments like The Estates Residences and upcoming projects such as EDNC and Ogami. The EDNC project will feature an exciting new opening for Eygpt, the country’s first Nobu restaurant and hotel.
“The Eastown District in New Cairo is a rapidly growing area with a strong demand for upscale dining, retail and entertainment experiences,” explains Ayman Amer, general manager at SODIC. “With Egypt’s growing tourism sector and the continued development of New Cairo, now is the ideal time to introduce Nobu, marking a new chapter in the country’s hospitality landscape.”
Cairo, specifically New Cairo has a close proximity to the American University in Cairo, giving it a position as a great hub for upscale dining and lifestyle offerings. “By bringing Nobu to Cairo, we are tapping into this growing demand for high-end experiences, positioning Egypt as an attractive destination for both international and regional tourists seeking luxury, culture, and world-class dining,” says Amer.
Opening in Fall 2025, the new restaurant will feature a bunch of design elements that set it apart, alongside signature dishes that Nobu is famous for (such as the miso marinated black cod and yellowtail sashimi with jalapeno). Designed by The Rockwell Group, it’ll take inspiration from Egypt’s desert landscape, pyramids and rich history of craftsmanship. “Guests will enter through dramatic double-height split-stone walls, lush plantings, and bonsai trees, setting the stage for a refined dining experience,” says Amer. Once inside, the restaurant’s two-story space will have a limestone sushi bar in the center with a suspended sculpture placed above the dining area. “The blend of Japanese minimalism with Egyptian artistry makes it a one-of-a-kind experience in Cairo,” explains Amer.
On the first floor, the Nobu restaurant will have an exclusive cigar lounge and a bar. The restaurant will be housed in a 23,680 square feet space, which can accommodate up to 300 diners, and feature a private dining room and an event space. With the design concept, Nobu Egypt is intended to highlight the essence of Japan with the history of Egypt. Its clean minimal design will utilize natural woods, metals and geometric patterns.
While the menu specifics are under wraps for now, this will be the first Nobu restaurant to open in Egypt. “Nobu is famous for its innovative dishes that blend Japanese and Peruvian flavors, and we’re confident that the restaurant in EDNC will feature the iconic flavors and creative cuisine that have made Nobu a global sensation,” says Amer.
In addition to the new restaurant, the project will also include a Nobu Hotel. It will feature over 50 rooms alongside a bevy of premium amenities like a pool area, state-of-the-art fitness center and incredible spa. The property will also feature multipurpose event spaces for events and meetings.
SODIC has partnered with Nobu Hospitality to create a comprehensive expansion of the Nobu brand in Egypt. Over the next few years, the partnership will bring new Nobu hotels, restaurants and branded residents to different areas of Egypt.
