Following her turn in Oscar-winning film Emilia Pérez, Selena Gomez is teaming up with her fiancé Benny Blanco for their collaborative album I Said I Love You First, set for release next week. They first gave a taste of the album with the Gracie Abrams collab “Call Me When You Break Up” last month, and the couple is now giving another preview of the project with new single “Sunset Blvd.”
Gomez said the iconic Los Angeles street will “always be a special place” for her and Blanco, so it should come as no surprise that the two are memorializing their love for the locale together. The vision isn’t entirely PG-rated, however. “You’re my cherry pie / I don’t care who knows it / Love me ’til I die / Bury me with roses / I know you’re awfully shy / But I can’t wait to hold it, to hold that,” Gomez sings on the track. “With open arms / Holding you naked, middle of Sunset Boulevard / Making you famous, everyone’s watching / Bare skin, concrete / They’re calling the police / Open arms / Holding you naked, middle of Sunset.”
Blanco opened up about his relationship with Gomez to Interview last month.
“I worship the ground she walks on and I feel like she’s the same way to me. There’s no ego between us. She’s praying for me to win and I’m praying for her to win. And I wake up in the morning—I know she does the same thing—and I’m like, ‘How can I make her life better?’” he gushed. “Holding her isn’t close enough. I want to be inside of her whole body. I just feel a thing for her that I can’t even explain. I’m so sappy.”
As far as working with Blanco as a producer, Gomez always appreciated “the fact that he listened” to her. “Sometimes it’s difficult for me to speak up. Most of my anxiety right now is wanting him to speak because I feel like he’s more talented than I am in this field. It’s like working with a great filmmaker,” she admitted. “Whether we were together or not, I think he still would’ve listened to everything that I had to say, and he was able to almost transcribe it into music, into what the feeling of what I was talking about should be. And I really found that to be helpful because this album definitely feels just as much mine as I’m sure it does his.”
I Said I Love You First is out next Friday, March 21.
