Trucks need to be able to do truck things: tow, haul, and rip through the dirt. That said, here in Texas there are plenty of pavement princesses that rarely, if ever, do those things. Truck owners still like to know that the potential exists to do truck things just in case. Some people are skeptical about the ability of an all-electric truck to be as tough as a gas-powered pickup, and the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado EV answers that with a resounding yes.
Curious about alternatives? Take a look at the Ford F-150 Lightning (advantage: significantly cheaper) or the Rivian R1T (advantage: super modern).
1. Hey, That’s A Good-Looking Truck
Introduced for model year 2024, the Chevrolet Silverado EV starts at $75,195 and ranges up to $97,895 for the RST Max Range variant. The Silverado EV has some early Honda Ridgeline vibes, but with big improvements.
Inside the cabin, the Silverado EV is not as plush as the GMC Sierra EV Denali. These twins are mechanically identical, however. Chevy doesn’t skimp on technology; the Silverado EV boasts a 17.7-inch infotainment touchscreen with Google built-in, a wireless charging pad, a 7-speaker Bose audio system, and hands-free driving with SuperCruise is an option. Assembled at the Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Center in Michigan, the Chevrolet Silverado EV has a lot going for it.
2. Wow, the Chevrolet Silverado EV Has Lots Of Legroom And Storage
Along with the 5-foot-11-inch bed present in every Silverado EV, the truck offers 44.3 inches of legroom in the rear seat. So if you don’t have passengers in the back, you can load it up with luggage, sports equipment, or a couple of Yeti coolers. Need a little more room? The Silverado EV has a power-operated 10.7-cubic-foot front trunk, which is enough for several bags of groceries. And Chevy says it can tow up to 8,500 pounds; you should know that towing does affect the range.
3. Big Power And Big Range
Two motors run the Silverado EV. and Chevy claims to 765 lb-ft torque and 645 horsepower when it’s in Wide Open Watts mode (think Watts to Freedom mode in the GMC Hummer EV). Typically, though, the the base WT trim is good for 510 horsepower and the LT offers 645. The automaker says the Silverado EV has a range of 282 miles in the work truck with standard range, and at the top of the heap the work truck max range is an estimated 492 miles.
4. Smart Small Storage
The Silverado EV has excellent small storage space. There’s a massive center console, and useful bins and plenty of cupholders for everyone to have a couple of beverages each, oh happy day.
5. Easy-To-Use Technology
The 2025 Chevrolet Silverado EV comes standard with a 17.7-inch infotainment touchscreen a digital cluster in front of the driver. Chevy did a great job blending buttons and touchscreen functions, and the screen is neatly integrated into the dashboard. Map graphics are crystal clear, and setting up favorite channels requires a simple touch. I appreciate that a second set of audio controls are built into toggle switches behind the steering wheel, which makes more sense than having them on the front of the wheel.
