Taylor Swift owns the entire top 10 on the Hot 100 this week. She remains the only musician who has managed this feat in the history of that chart, and this frame marks the second time she’s achieved the incredible showing.
With 10 new top 10s to her credit, she’s now collected a total of 59 smashes that have landed somewhere inside that tier. Swift furthers her lead as the female artist with the most wins inside the competitive region with this latest swath of instant hits.
Madonna is in second place on the ranking of women with the most top 10 hits on the Hot 100. Throughout her career, she’s collected 38 such smashes. For many years, that held as the all-time record among all acts–but as time passes, more contemporary stars have been beating her total.
It wasn’t that long ago that Swift sat behind Madonna. She’s earned more than 20 new top 10 hits in the past few years. She snagged 10 with her 2022 album Midnights, which made her the first artist to claim the entire top 10 at one time.
Since then, she’s collected two more No. 1s on the Hot 100. Her 2019 track “Cruel Summer” made a surprise trip to the summit years after it was first made available. The lead cut from her 1989 re-release, “Is It Over Now? (Taylor’s Version) (From The Vault),” debuted atop the ranking in 2023, adding to her total.
Among all artists, Drake still leads in this bit of history, and it’s not close. The rapper has sent 77 tunes into the top 10 on the Hot 100. He adds to that sum regularly, so it’s possible that he may never be tied again.
Drake and Swift’s performances on the Hot 100 are certainly impressive, and they have earned their spots in the history books…but they are working at a time when the ranking operates differently from when Madonna collected most of her smashes. These days, when a star like Swift releases a new album, it’s not uncommon for several tracks–if not 10–to debut inside the highest region on the roster. That was not the case during the ‘80s and ‘90s. Madonna had to push all of her singles into the top 10 the more traditional route, which speaks to her celebrity and the power of her catalog.
