While Hisense has grabbed headlines in recent years with its Laser TV concept, where ultra short throw projectors are shipped with dedicated ambient light rejecting screens to create a king-sized TV effect, the brand has also done very nicely in recent times with its standalone UST projectors. So much so that itās actually kicking off its 2024 projector announcements with a new standalone UST model, the PX3-PRO.
Positioned as Hisenseās premium UST projector for the season, the PX3-PRO combines its TriChroma triple-laser projection system with the latest iteration of Hisenseās own laser processing engine. An engine which, Hisense claims, can deliver āreal-time Pro AI Algorithms to enhance brightness, fine-tune contrast, and eliminate noiseā.
Hisense puts a few numbers behind these fine words, too. Namely a claimed ability of the PX3-PRO to deliver 110% of the BT 2020 color space (!), 3,000 ANSI Lumens of brightness, 80 to 150-inch image sizes, and a native contrast ratio of 3,000:1.
All of these numbers point towards a concerted bid by Hisense to deliver a projector capable of handling high dynamic range video, so itās good to see that the PX3-PRO also supports the Dolby Vision and HDR10+ premium HDR formats (which provide compatible display devices with extra scene by scene image data) alongside the more expected HDR10 and HLG formats. This means that whatever source you play into the PX3-PRO, it will be capable of receiving the very best version of it.
The projector is even IMAX Enhanced certified, meaning its picture quality has been deemed capable by IMAX of doing justice to the specially mastered, ultra-clean pictures you get with the few IMAX Enhanced titles available on 4K Blu-ray and the wider range of titles available on one or two streaming services (including Disney+).
While it might not ship with a screen like Hisenseās Laser TVs do, the PX3-PRO still offers features beyond its ultra short throw design that give it a TV-like feel. Starting with a built-in Google TV smart system providing most of the key video streaming platforms (including Disney+, Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime).
Thereās support for polarized 3D if youāre still a 3D fan, too, as well as high refresh rates for gaming and sports fans.
The PX3-PROās living room credentials are rounded out by a speaker system built into its rear edge that on paper, at least, puts those of most TVs to shame. This audio set up is fed by a very healthy 50W of power, and can decode Dolby Atmos soundtracks. Whatās more, since the PX3-PROās rear (if you consider the side of it where its images are shown to be the front) actually faces out into your room, its sound emerges directly forward towards your seating position. This gives it more impact and directness than most TV sound systems, where the speakers tend to be built in to the screenās rear edges.
If the PX3-PRO sounds like just the sort of king-sized home theater beast your living room has been crying out for, Hisense says it will be available in the third quarter 0f 2024 with a price tag of $3,499.99.
