YouTuber-turned-pro boxer Jake Paul, who is booked to face Mike Tyson in a boxing matchup at the home of the Dallas Cowboys, AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on July 20, has not given up his dream of competing in mixed martial arts.
Paul, speaking on his āB/S w/ Jake Paulā podcast earlier this week, named two former UFC fighters he would like to face under the PFL banner.
āIām being so serious when I say that I want to fight them in MMA,ā said Paul. āEither Masvidal or Diaz, in the PFL, 10 million dollar offer for either one of those guys. Again, they will literally hide behind the fact ā¦ Masvidal: āYou canāt even box. What the (expletive) are you going to do coming over to MMA, bro? Iām from Miami, Florida, bro! (Expletive) you, donāt disrespect me.ā
ā(Expletive) bird brain, thatās what he hides behind. Same with Paddy (Pimblett), Sean Strickland, all of these guys hide behind these crazy things, but still none of them have shown up to the table to talk any business about anything to make anything actually happen for a real fight, a real spar, whatever it is. So, the offer still stands there. I want either one of those guys in MMA.ā
Paul faced Diaz in a 185-pound boxing matchup in August. Paul won that fight by unanimous decision. Diaz and Masvidal are currently booked to face off in a 175-pound boxing contest on June 1 at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles.
Diaz is no longer under contract with the UFC. However, Masvidal, who retired from MMA after losing to Gilbert Burns at UFC 287 in April 2023, remains under contract with the promotion ā something he discussed in a recent conversation with Morning Kombat. Since Masvidal is under contract with the UFC, the promotion had to grant him permission to face Diaz in a boxing match.
Paul offered his opinion on that fact.
āThe UFC gave Masvidal a list of 35 names that he was allowed to box,ā said Paul. āHeās technically still under UFC contract so theyāre letting him out of his contract to box Nate, but thereās 35 other names and I was not on it.ā
Paul is signed with PFL for an MMA bout. He was initially expected to compete for the promotion by the end of 2024. However, PFL chairman and founder Donn Davis recently said that Paulās MMA debut is on hold because he is currently focused on boxing. Paul is 9-1 over his boxing career.
Paul offered Diaz $10 million for an MMA fight in September, but said that Diaz turned down that offer.
