Real Madrid target Kylian Mbappe discussed possibly changing his decision to join the club after helping knock its bitter rivals FC Barcelona out of the Champions League quarterfinals with Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night.
The Frenchman scored two goals in 4-1 second leg win at the Montjuic Stadium, which eliminated the Catalans from the elite competition 6-4 on aggregate and damaged morale less than five days from El Clasico.
SPORT reported that Mbappe’s announcement to join Real Madrid on a free transfer when his contract expires on June 30 could be announced as soon as this week had PSG been on the losing end of the tie instead after being defeated 3-2 at the Parc des Princes.
As it turns out, that bombshell development might not happen just yet, but Mbappe also won’t go back on his original decision to leave Paris Saint-Germain reported by The Athletic and other outlets regardless of how far the Ligue 1 outfit goes on the continent.
“No, no, no,” he answered, when asked if he might change his mind.
Mbappe insists that his mind is focused on winning the UCL for the first time and also bringing PSG its maiden crown in the tournament.
“I have the dream of winning the Champions League with Paris. Sure. It’s another step now against a great team and we’re going to try to get to Wembley. We played a great game as a group and we worked for six days with the idea of winning here,” he said.
“It’s a great day for the club and congratulations to all the people at the club who work as the staff. Playing for the team in the capital of my country is very special, I dreamed of these knockout games when I came to PSG. It’s a great day for the club.”
After the Germans beat Barca’s La Liga rivals 4-2 in the Westfalenstadion and 5-4 on aggregate, PSG will now take on Borussia Dortmund in the last four.
Should they get to the final, it is possible that Mbappe meet his prospective new employers Madrid there though Carlo Ancelotti’s men have a tall task on their hands in first getting by Manchester City and then the winner of Bayern Munich versus Arsenal in the other quarterfinal.
