WWE Raw advertised the homecoming for Sami Zayn as he made his first WWE Intercontinental Championship defense against mentor Chad Gable. Fans also tuned in for an important update on Rhea Ripley’s future as the popular star reportedly suffered an injury on Raw last week. The injury resulted in the dominant WWE women’s world champion vacating the title.

Rhea Ripley Vacates WWE Women’s World Championship
Rhea Ripley confirmed she would have to vacate the WWE Women’s World Championship. At one point she fumbled one of her lines, only to recover by admitting she was flustered and angry because of this situation.
Ripley said she’d be out for a few months, which is weird. Rhea only really defended the WWE Women’s World Championship once every couple of months anyway, so why not just have her hold onto the title?
Ripley said she’d be out, not because of her injury, but because when she finds Liv Morgan she’ll be in Montreal jail. Rhea’s promo turned Liv heel (as if Liv was going to be a babyface against Ripley anyway). Fans booed Liv for injuring Ripley all while chanting “thank you Mami.”
Liv Morgan confronted Rhea Ripley and both were held back by security. Michael Cole noted Ripley (kayfabe) injured Morgan, which led to Morgan’s revenge tour where Morgan injured Ripley.
Ripley head-butted a security guard (Larry Heckler) before her music played and the segment ended.
Ripley shared a wholesome moment with The Judgment Day backstage, telling Dominik she “te llamo (I love you)” before exiting.
Sheamus Def. Ivar
Sheamus switched up his look with biker shorts as compared to speedo trunks. He looked to be in fairly good shape but not nearly the body he had pre-injury.
Fans chanted “welcome back” in both French and English.
Sheamus hit an awesome White Noise from the middle rope before Raw went to break. He later followed up with his pre-finisher (The Kneecap) before hitting The Brogue Kick. Fans didn’t chant “Brogue” when he beat his chest, but rather “hoo!” like he was Oba Femi.
Sheamus, extremely happy to be back, embraced Michael Cole and Pat McAfee after the match, to the point of near-strangulation.
DIY Def. The Creed Brothers And The New Day
Awesome Truth was presented with the (beautiful) new WWE Raw Tag Team Championships. They were the best Tag Team Titles WWE has produced in a while, dating back to those ugly copper tag belts.
R-Truth confused Triple H with Tommaso Ciampa, prompting Triple H to ask if he (Triple H) could leave.
Adam Pearce announced a Triple Threat Match to determine a new No. 1 Contender. During The New Day’s entrance, there was a suspicious QR Code that likely has something to do with Uncle Howdy and maybe even Erick Rowan. The QR Code leads to Greek God mythology and a message that says “take my hand.”
DIY won an exciting tag team match with a double superkick to Xavier Woods.
LeRae And Hartwell Def. Dupri And Nile
Candice LeRae’s heel turn had a promising start, and now WWE is finally pulling the trigger on a plot twist as Indi Hartwell finally decided to join LeRae in her heelish actions.
Hartwell gave a big boot to Maxxine Dupri while the referee wasn’t looking, then draped LeRae over Dupri for the pin. Nile couldn’t interfere because Hartwell was holding Nile’s leg.
Andrade Def. Dominik Mysterio
Dominik Mysterio failed to recruit Andrade to The Judgment Day, only to go onto lose to Andrade, quickly, in a singles match on Raw. Prior to Ripley’s injury, WWE was teasing that she was getting fed up with his losing ways.
WWE shouldn’t take Dominik Mysterio’s heat for granted. He’s on yet another losing streak, presumably because WWE doesn’t think it’ll affect his heat. But if he’s perceived as a loser, it’ll be tough for fans to remain angry with him because him losing is what they want to see.
The Judgment Day attacked Andrade after the match and Ricochet made the save.
Green And Niven Def. Carter And Chance
Katana Chance and Kayden Carter are mired in a start-and-stop push as part of the half-hearted women’s tag team division. Plus Jade and Bianca are coming. Chance and Carter may be better off going their separate ways.
Chelsea Green picked up a rare pinfall win, and she treated it like her WrestleMania moment.
Backstage, a heelish Liv Morgan complained about being booed and receiving resentment backstage. Where was the support for Liv when Rhea took her out of action? Morgan then vowed to win the WWE Women’s World Championship.
Cody Rhodes Appears Live
Fans went nuts for Cody yet again, and he even asked “what do you want to talk about?” in French.
Rhodes confirmed that, technically, he’s a Friday Night SmackDown Superstar.
Cody Rhodes needed every ounce of his charisma to make a dad joke work when he was talking about Jey Uso, and made the pun “from my head to my yeet.”
Jey Uso respectfully told Cody Rhodes he didn’t need his help winning the WWE World Championship, and Cody honored these wishes by not making the save later on that night when Jey seemed like he needed it.
Jey Uso Def. Finn Balor
Finn Balor attacked Uso from behind before the match started and remained in control for most of the opening minutes.
Jey Uso is getting really over right now, and while Damian Priest is a first-time world champion unlikely to drop the strap in his first title defense, Uso feels more like he should be world champion right now.
After Jey Uso defeated Balor, he fought off The Judgment Day and absconded through the crowd. This led to a one-shot moment where Jey met up with hometown hero Sami Zayn as the crowd popped.
Sami Zayn Def. Chad Gable
Sami Zayn walked through the concession stand and through the crowd for an awesome entrance in Montreal.
Zayn vs. Gable went through two commercial breaks as Zayn’s wife watched from the crowd.
The story of this match was how well the two knew each other after training together for all those weeks.
In a scary spot, Zayn dropped Gable on the back of his head with a release German Suplex.
Gable gave Zayn a receipt with a release German Suplex into the turnbuckle. Gable tried for a moonsault, but when Sami put his feet up, Zayn slapped on the ankle lock.
A hobbled Zayn won an excellent match with a Helluva Kick.
As Sami celebrated with his family, Chad Gable turned heel and attacked Sami Zayn.
