Seventeen’s FML has been named the bestselling album in the world in 2023. The IFPI–the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry–has revealed its list of the top-selling full-lengths and EPs all around the globe last year, and it’s clear that the South Korean boy band won.
FML sold 6.4 million copies globally in 2023, according to the IFPI. That figure includes only pure purchases, whether they be on a physical format or digital.
That’s a large enough number to easily place Seventeen in first place on this global sales-only list. In fact, they won the year by more than one million purchases–a huge sum in today’s seemingly streaming-focused world.
The second-bestselling album in the world in 2023 was Stray Kids’ 5-Star. That set sold 5.3 million copies globally. That’s also a massive figure, but it’s still 1.1 million copies behind FML.
As if landing at No. 1 on the IFPI’s sales chart wasn’t enough of a show of dominance, Seventeen actually appears twice on this ranking. The group sits at No. 4 as well with Seventeenth Heaven. That set sold 4.5 million copies around the world last year.
It’s not shocking that Seventeen ended up winning this title. For years, the South Korean all-male vocal outfit has ranked as one of the bestselling names in the music industry. They consistently see their project hit totals that pretty much any other artist couldn’t come close to reaching.
Earlier this year, the IFPI released a number of other global rankings of the biggest and most popular musical releases in 2023. Seventeen’s FML was named the biggest album in the world when looking at total consumption.
