Jazz at Lincoln Center is celebrating Valentine’s Day this year with concerts by two performers.
On February 14, singer and songwriter Morgan James will perform at two concerts at Dizzy’s Club, presenting music from her 2023 release, Nobody’s Fool, as well as acoustic interpretations of music by artists including Aretha Franklin, Donny Hathaway, Joni Mitchell and Otis Redding. Her concerts will be at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.
On February 16 and 17, five-time Grammy Award-winning singer and NEA Jazz Master Dianne Reeves will perform concerts at Rose Theater, a longtime Valentine Day’s tradition there.
Performing with a sextet, she will “share songs of rapture and anguish, of romance and heartbreak—all in celebration of that mysterious force called love. Revealing an approach to melody and phrasing as skilled as it is spontaneous, the supreme vocalist and expert song interpreter delivers cherished standards and surprise repertoire,” Jazz at Lincoln Center said.
Discussing her singing, Reeves has noted, “I just want to tell the story. My instrument is an extension of my soul.”
Concertgoers to Reeves’ shows will receive a complimentary cover to the 11 p.m. late night session both evenings at Dizzy’s Club.
In addition, James’ show at Dizzy’s Club will be available to livestream on JazzLive.com.
