On Monday evening, the sounds of a string quintet playing the Bridgerton pop cover of Rihannaâs âWe Found Loveâ could be heard emanating from the verdant grounds of The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens in Los Angeles, California. The botanical gardens had been transformed into an ambling promenade designed to showcase the 2024 Bridgerton Wedding Collection, a new collaboration between bridalwear designer Allure Bridals, Netflix and Shondaland. The collection features bridal gowns designed by Emmy-award winning designer Lyn Paolo, and is inspired by Shondalandâs hit Netflix series Bridgerton and Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.
Attendees wearing regency-inspired attire took their seats, and the runway show featuring size-diverse models began.
Bridgerton has made headlines for its focus on body inclusivity and representation since its debut in December 2020. The show, produced by Shonda Rhimesâ media company Shondaland, is set in 19th-century Britain, and breaks the rules of the average period drama by creating a world where there are Black aristocrats and royalty. Additionally, plus-size actress Nicola Coughlan of Derry Girls, plays a complex main character named Penelope Featherington.
The new collection reflects the showâs value of size diversity. Created by family-owned and operated Allure Bridals, the 2024 Bridgerton Wedding Collection is available through size 30, and the promotional and editorial imagery for the collection was shot on a size 6 and a size 22 model. Gowns will be sold in bridal salons worldwide starting this month. Prices will range from $1,600 to $3,000.
Anna Johnson, Customer Success Coordinator for Allure Bridals, shared that this is Netflixâs first foray into formal wear. âNetflix put it out in the industry atmosphere, and this collection has been in progress for two years.â When asked about how the collection mirrors the showâs commitment to diversity and inclusivity, designer Lyn Paolo, shared, âEvery woman deserves to feel beautiful on her wedding day. We strive to be inclusive on every level.â
