UNICEF continued to put children first in 2023
Children around the world faced multiple challenges in 2023, from protracted conflicts and displacement to economic collapse and natural disasters. Through it all, UNICEF was on the scene to provide children with urgently needed humanitarian assistance: safe water, sanitation, health care, malnutrition treatment, immunization, education, psychosocial support, child protection and more.
When major earthquakes struck Turkey and Syria in February and Afghanistan in October, UNICEF was there, delivering emergency supplies and health care for children and families. UNICEF rushed aid to flood victims in Libya and parents struggling to keep their kids safe in Haiti and worked to advance the rights and well-being of children with disabilities worldwide.
As the war in Ukraine stretched into its second year, UNICEF helped children continue their education and set up safe spaces where they could play. When full-scale civil war erupted in Sudan, creating the world’s largest child displacement crisis, UNICEF rapidly scaled up aid for families fleeing violence. And as Gaza became the most dangerous place on earth for children, UNICEF continued to call for a humanitarian ceasefire and to press for unrestricted access to ramp up delivery of critical lifesaving support including water trucking, essential nutrition supplies, blankets, tents and warm clothing.
Ongoing support for UNICEF can make a big difference in a child’s life
Since its founding to aid child refugees displaced by World War II, UNICEF has put children first, advocating for their rights, strengthening the systems they rely on and working to ensure that every child has a happy, healthy childhood and the opportunity to reach their full potential.
That work wouldn’t be possible without the sustained support of donors who believe in UNICEF’s mission to ensure every child is healthy, educated, protected and respected. When children’s needs are met and they can grow up to fulfill their dreams, the whole world benefits.
Thank you for making the health and well-being of children everywhere a priority in 2023 and every year. Your ongoing support can make a world of difference.
