In February, the ETF industry saw a 17% increase in newly launched funds compared with the previous month, while the number of closures dropped 46%.
February saw the launch of 35 new ETFs, a 17% increase over the 30 launches in January. Meanwhile the number of ETFs closing fell to 8, a 46% drop from the 15 closures the previous month, according to Morningstar.
As to be expected, highly focused niche funds and crypto-related funds took top billing among the January closures, while a surprising number of dividend-focused ETFs also closed. Its surprising because this seems like a good time for dividend funds, as falling stock prices equal bigger dividend yields.
