Topline
President Donald Trump on Thursday night said he will “permanently pause migration” from all “Third World Countries” in a lengthy social media post, as he leaned on Wednesday’s shooting in Washington, D.C., where the suspect has been identified as an Afghan national, to push for an expanded crackdown on immigration.
Key Facts
In a post on Truth Social, Trump lashed out at immigrants in the U.S. and claimed without evidence that the U.S.’s “Immigration Policy has eroded” the gains the country has made through technological progress.
The president then declared that he will “permanently pause migration from all Third World Countries to allow the U.S. system to fully recover.”
He added that he plans to “terminate all of the millions” of admissions, which he claims were made “illegally” by the Biden administration.
Trump said he will remove any immigrant who is “not a net asset to the United States, or is incapable of loving our Country,” and vowed to “end all Federal benefits and subsidies to noncitizens.”
Trump also threatened to “denaturalize migrants who undermine domestic tranquility,” and deport foreign nationals who his administration deems as a “security risk,” or “not-compatible with Western Civilization.”
The president’s post went on to allege, again without any evidence, that “most” foreign-born U.S. residents were “on welfare, from failed nations, or from prisons, mental institutions, gangs, or drug cartels.”
Tangent
In his post, Trump also lashed out at Minnesota Gov. and former Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz and Somali immigrants, including Rep.Ilhan Omar, D-Minn. Speaking to reporters earlier on Thursday, Trump reiterated several unfounded claims about Somali refugees, saying they were “taking over” Minnesota. When asked why he was bringing up Somalis when the suspected shooter was an Afghan, Trump responded: “but Somalians have caused a lot of trouble, they’re ripping us off a lot of money…We’re not taking their people anymore.” In his Truth Social post, the president falsely claimed: “Somalian gangs are roving the streets looking for ‘prey’ as our wonderful people stay locked in their apartments and houses.” The president then attacked Walz, calling him “seriously retarded,” and called Omar, who was born in Somalia, “worst ‘Congressman/woman’ in our Country.”
