When HigherDOSE first launched its at-home wellness tech nearly a decade ago, it helped usher in a new era of infrared-powered self-care, one where recovery wasn’t reserved for athletes and detox didn’t require a retreat. The brand’s Infrared Sauna Blanket became a cult favorite; its PEMF Mat turned into a grounding ritual for millions; and its signature “DOSE” philosophy quickly seeped into the mainstream lexicon. And now, the brand is extending the biohacking movement to an entirely new demographic: our pets.
This month, HigherDOSE releases its first-ever Infrared PEMF Pet Bed, a dual-therapy wellness device designed specifically for animals. The launch marks a meaningful expansion into the growing “pet longevity” category–a market already valued at $150 billion and continuing to grow rapidly–and positions HigherDOSE to become one of the first true leaders in high-end recovery tech for pets. For co-founders Lauren Berlingeri and Katie Kaps, the move wasn’t driven by trend forecasting or white-space strategy. Instead, it started with their community, and their dogs.
“The expansion into pet wellness happened very organically,” Berlingeri explains. “Our community has always shared photos of their dogs lounging on their HigherDOSE PEMF Mats, and we saw a real, instinctive attraction to the technology.” At first, these photos were a sweet quirk of the brand’s highly engaged audience, but they kept coming, and coming. Soon enough, customers began asking outright for a pet version.
According to Kaps, that was the spark. “The moment we started seeing the volume of those photos–dogs literally taking over their owners’ mats–we knew there was an opportunity,” she says. “Once requests for a pet-specific version started coming in, we went deep into research around veterinary PEMF applications. It became clear this wasn’t a small add-on; it could become a completely new product pillar for the brand.”
HigherDOSE was already a leader in human longevity-focused tech, and PEMF (Pulsed Electromagnetic Field therapy) was one of its fastest-growing categories. With PEMF’s deep roots in equine medicine and veterinary recovery, along with decades of research into its helpful effects on mobility, pain, and anxiety in animals, the crossover felt almost inevitable. “The timing, the data, and the customer demand all pointed in the same direction,” Berlingeri adds.
The co-founders and their team spent 18 months developing the Pet Bed, working with veterinarians, testing materials for durability, and tailoring the device’s heat and frequency settings for animal physiology. “The biggest challenge was durability,” Berlingeri explains. “Pets claw, dig, nest, shed, and can be rough on materials in a totally different way than humans. We had to reengineer everything from cushioning to waterproofing to our machine-washable cover.”
Safety, always a critical concern for pet parents, guided every design decision and eventually led to a bed even the most cautious of dog parents can feel good about. The final product–available in Small and Large sizes–features low-EMF output, a chew-resistant cord, medical-grade non-toxic materials, automatic shutoff timers, and a built-in control panel that keeps heat and PEMF frequencies within pet-safe ranges, all elements that were shaped by veterinary guidance. “Our consulting veterinarians emphasized temperature regulation and a chew-resistant cord to double down on safety,” Berlingeri notes. “We wanted a true green light from experts before bringing anything to market.”
The bed ultimately blends infrared heat, which pets naturally gravitate toward for warmth, with six PEMF frequency levels ranging from gentle grounding (3 Hz) to energizing pre-activity pulses (60 Hz). While the technology may sound complex, animals actually respond to it quite intuitively. “We describe PEMF as holistic healing technology that supports rejuvenation, recovery, and relaxation,” Kaps says. “Animals tend to respond to it instinctively.”
With the launch of its Pet Bed, HigherDOSE joins a long list of health and longevity brands dipping their toes into the pet wellness sector, a category that’s shifted dramatically in the last decade. Today’s pet parents aren’t just buying squeaky toys and grain-free kibble; they’re seeking functional foods, supplements, mobility aids, and even wearable trackers to support their pets’ long-term health.
Kaps sees this shift as part of a broader cultural moment. “Pet wellness is the next frontier in longevity,” she says. “As the first biohacking brand to bring PEMF therapy into the home, HigherDOSE is uniquely positioned to extend that expertise to pets, delivering the same proven recovery and cellular benefits trusted by our human customers.”
The Pet Bed also fits neatly into the brand’s larger vision. PEMF sales were already up 25 percent year-over-year, and with the Pet Bed, Kaps forecasts that growth will climb to 30 percent. “This product introduces a new vertical and solidifies PEMF as a core pillar of the brand,” she explains. “Long term, it allows us to build parallel rituals for the entire family, with an elevated design that integrates seamlessly into home decor.”
This concept of the home as a shared wellness sanctuary is something the co-founders see as central to the future of HigherDOSE. “We also see the home evolving into a holistic wellness sanctuary where humans and pets share grounding, recovery, and relaxation rituals,” Kaps says. “The Pet Bed is one of the first steps toward that future.”
And unlike many pet wellness products, which require training, acclimation, or owner participation, HigherDOSE’s Pet Bed incorporates rather seamlessly into pets’ (and their humans’) routines. “Most pets instinctively gravitate toward warmth and sunlight, so the infrared heat feels very natural to them,” Berlingeri says. She recommends using the bed during established rest times, including after walks, before bedtime, or while working from home. A single 20-minute PEMF cycle helps support daily relaxation, while the heat adds soothing comfort for anxious or older pets. “Because pets tend to use the bed multiple times a day, the cost per use becomes incredibly low,” she says of the bed, which comes with a price tag of $599 for the Small and $749 for the Large. “It becomes not just a comfort item but a long-term investment in their mobility, recovery, and overall well-being.”
The Pet Bed launch also comes with two strategic partnerships. The first is with Bark Air, the dog-first airline that’s captured national attention for its luxury pet-centric travel model. Beginning December 1, HigherDOSE will offer complimentary “DOSE Sessions” in Bark Air terminals–essentially, a pre-flight relaxation ritual for dogs (and their humans). The second partnership is with Wags + Walks, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to rescuing and rehoming dogs in need. HigherDOSE will donate $10,000 in holiday sales for Giving Tuesday and will support an educational campaign around adoption. “Bark Air and Wags + Walks are both strategic partnerships that help ground our mission across nonprofit and luxury verticals,” Kaps says. “Together, these partnerships show how HigherDOSE is entering pet wellness with a thoughtful blend of luxury, science, and impact.”
And this foray into the pet longevity space is just the beginning for the brand. “We believe the future of pet wellness is moving from reactive care to proactive longevity,” Kaps says. “It’s not just about helping pets live longer, but helping them age better.”
Berlingeri believes that ultimately, HigherDOSE’s Pet Bed could even help reshape the cultural conversation around how we care for our pets. “We hope it shifts the way people think about pet wellness,” she says. “And for the brand, it signals our evolution into a true longevity company–not just for humans, but for every member of the household.”
