Today, New York City invites over 55,000 athletes from around the globe to traverse the five boroughs for the TCS New York City Marathon. Organized by the New York Road Runners (NYRR), the nonprofit that “runs” New York City with over half a million members, hosting one of the largest marathon and most iconic events in running, is a race for personal achievement, simultaneously, a city-wide celebration of human potential and perseverance.
This year’s professional field is one of the most competitive in history, featuring 46 Olympians and Paralympians, 17 Olympic, Paralympic, and World Championships medalists, five former open division champions, and six former wheelchair division champions.
The starting line will be a who’s who of distance running royalty. The starting line is filled with elite talent, including defending champions Sheila Chepkirui and Abdi Nageeye, as well as global superstars Eliud Kipchoge and Sifan Hassan.
For both participants and spectators, the TCS New York City Marathon Expo Presented by New Balance was the place to get all your needs met for race day as one of the country’s largest running expositions. Here, New Balance unveiled its official race collection, FIINISHERS capsule, and offered apparel and accessories, along with footwear, for those planning to cross the finish line and supporters cheering from the sidewalks.
The collection orbited is the race-day footwear engineered for peak performance. The TCS New York City Marathon festivities initiated days before, with longtime partner since 2017, New Balance, distributing free running shoes to more than 350 students from NYC Public Schools. Each student is part of Rising New York Road Runners, NYRR’s free youth program, and had a chance to get inspired by New Balance athlete and four-time Olympic gold medalist Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, joining the students in fitness activities.
Honoring the community commitment, NYRR CEO Rob Simmelkjaer announced a renewal of the partnership with New Balance, which will include local track refurbishments starting in 2026, providing over 50,000 students nationwide with free shoes.
