Fishs Eddy is a longtime retail fixture within Manhattan’s Union Square neighborhood, selling fun, restaurant-quality dishware, glassware and other kitchen and home accessories.
Now, this emporium has branched out to Brooklyn with a new outpost in Dumbo that adds on a coffee bar and an old-school soda fountain.
Having a soft opening in early October 2025, Fishs Eddy’s new 3,800-square-foot extension features a mix of vintage finds, one-of-a-kind pieces and signature products.
Named for an upstate New York hamlet, this independent business was founded by artist Julie Gaines and her then-husband and partner Dave Lenovitz, in 1986. The shop was originally based in a West Village space until moving to its present-day location three years later.
“Brooklyn’s been in our DNA forever,” said Gaines, in a media statement. “Some of our most iconic patterns have Brooklyn brownstones and the bridge. So, moving to Brooklyn was just a matter of time. Of course, we’re fashionably late, but that’s how New Yorkers roll!”
Among other products, Fishs Eddy puts out signature design collections such as their 212 Skyline series with a motif of New York’s famous architectural sites embellishing tea towels, diner mugs, bowls, plates and drinking glasses. The retailer’s Brooklynese line highlights this form of New York speech with words like “cawfee” and “buttah” across related kitchen goods.
With its lease facilitated by Two Trees Management Co., a family-owned, Brooklyn-based real estate development firm, Fishs Eddy joins many other design firms and studios within this waterfront area that’s now one of New York City’s design districts.
Daniel Yadgard, CEO of Fishs Eddy, joined the brand to help grow their business and opening additional stores was a key part of that plan.
“Initially, the idea was to be closer to our existing customer base, but in DUMBO, we also saw an opportunity to increase global visibility due to the high number of tourists visiting the area,” said Yadgard.
While offering merchandise that would also be found at the Union Square location, Fishs Eddy in Brooklyn will have its own unique touch of personality by being able to grab a coffee while shopping for perhaps a coffee mug or something else.
“This addition felt like a natural evolution for the brand,” explained Yadgard. “After selling millions of mugs over the years, it was time to start filling them! The vintage soda fountain is just a fun, quirky way to inject some Fishs Eddy character into the menu—we make a fantastic egg cream!”
Along with egg creams made with either U-Bet or Bosco’s syrup, the store’s coffee bar and soda fountain will offer drip coffees, cold brews, cappuccinos and lattes along with flavored handmade sodas.
Fishs Eddy has also partnered with SweetLeaf Coffee Roasters, a premium roaster in Queens, to create two signature roasts.
Also, at the Dumbo location, Fishs Eddy will carry an expansive and eclectic selection of dishware, with everyday staples including ceramic mugs, dinner plates and mixing bowls. Other merchandise extends to landmark-shaped butter dishes, oversized serving platters featuring political satire and glassware adorned with illustrations and retro diner logos.
Fishs Eddy’s Brooklyn location is at 81 Front St. in Dumbo.
