While the likes of Initial D and Eurobeat are synonymous with one another, Takara Tomy has announced some dinky new toys for fans of the series.
Specifically, these toys are part of the offshoot of the chibi Choro Q car toys, called Q Village.
The toy cars featured are the iconic Toyota AE86 Trueno and Mazda RX-7 FD3S, both with dinky figures of Takumi Fujiwara and Keisuke Takahashi, respectively. The Trueno also has the famous cup of water on the inside dashboard.
However, unlike Choro Q releases, these cars have no pullback action, so they are really just adorably dinky display pieces.
The pricing is also pretty reasonable, coming in at around 5,700 yen each (or about $37 at the current exchange rate).
If you are unfamiliar with Initial D, it started out as a manga in 1995 and featured Fujiwara as a tofu deliveryman in the mountains, where he would drift around corners at high speed to deliver the tofu on time.
Naturally, Takahashi’s tofu-delivering antics resulted in “rivals” wanting to race this drift master, and coupled with a thumping Eurobeat soundtrack for the anime, it’s become something of a cultural heirloom over the years.
Naturally, there have been a bunch of Initial D games too, and those have generally been quite decent to excellent, especially for the arcade iterations.
In any case, these two dinky cars will be released next May, so pre-order them now before they drift out of sight on a road high up in the Japanese mountains.
You can pick up both cars from HobbyLink Japan, with the respective toys being available to pre-order here and here.
