Normally a bastion of serenity and calm, British luxury automaker Rolls-Royce has created a fur-baby tribute car so cute you just want to scratch it behind its ears.
The one-of-one Rolls-Royce Spectre Bailey has been delivered to its US owners in a tribute to their golden retriever/Labrador mix, Bailey, from the company’s Bespoke Collective division.
With a Bailey Portrait made up of more than 180 pieces of hand-crafted wood veneer, paw-prints on the passenger panel and on the retriever-colored bodywork, the Spectre Bailey came about after a visit to the Private Office New York from long-standing Rolls-Royce clients.
While the owners remain anonymous, the head of Rolls-Royce’s Bespoke division, Phil Fabre de la Grange, was more forthcoming about the dog-lover’s ultimate luxury machine.
“For Rolls-Royce, one of the great joys of a Bespoke commission is becoming immersed in the client’s world and the unique story behind their vision,” de la Grange said.
“This is perfectly captured by Spectre Bailey, a charming commission that reaffirms that inspiration can come from anywhere.
“Our team was absolutely delighted to collaborate with our long-standing clients to bring this concept to life in a playful yet timeless manner, reflecting the special place Bailey holds in their hearts,” he said.
Built in Goodwood, England, in a two-tone Bailey-tinged paint code, the BEV Spectre Bailey took everything they had on the books that was dog-related, and amplified it, then created even more.
The iridescent paintwork is a combination of Crystal Fusion and the newly created Beautiful Bailey paint code, allegedly inspired by the dog’s ear fur.
There is a Bailey paw print on the rear quarter panel, too, and the interior is a combination of Moccasin and Crème Light leather, plus darker hints, while the wood is high-gloss Royal Walnut.
But the highlight is the portrait of Bailey, which took more than four months to create out of wood veneer, with no staining or artificial treatments. Four different woods were used to create Bailey’s tongue alone (Purple Heart, Tulipwood, Louro Faia and Pear).
“We are lifelong car enthusiasts, yes, but we are also lifelong animal lovers, and our dog Bailey is a cherished member of our family,” the owners explained.
“When we started our Rolls-Royce Spectre commission, we saw the opportunity to create something beautiful which would remind us of him for decades to come.
“Spectre Bailey is everything we hoped for and more; it’s a joyful tribute to our loyal companion,” they said.
