Following the launch of the Mattel Brick Shop earlier this year, the company has launched two new Audi models in collaboration with Hot Wheels. Adding to its core launch lineup which included the likes of the Corvette Grand Sport, Acura NSX, classic Chevy pickup, Cadillac Project GTP Hypercar and Maserati MC20, the new additions include the Audi Avant RS2 and the R8 LMS.
Ted Wu, global head of vehicles and building sets at Mattel said: “Mattel Brick Shop and Hot Wheels brand collaborations provide adult collectors and auto enthusiasts alike the ability to interact with their favorite vehicles, like these storied Audi models, in an entirely new way – by building them. Hot Wheels and Audi first partnered for the first official casting in 1993, and we’re proud to expand that relationship into one of the company’s newest brands in the building category, Mattel Brick Shop.”
Priced from $19.99, the Audi Avant RS2 is a 1:32 scale model aimed at collectors aged 17 and over. Back in 1994 and 1995, the RS2 was a limited edition model which became beloved by car enthusiasts who adored its unique turbocharged 5-cylinder engine and six-speed manual transmission. The Mattel Brick Shop version has a removable OEM-style greenhouse roof, four opening doors, opening front and back windshields and Toyo Proxes R888R tires. It also comes with a Hot Wheels signature metal plate, decals and OEM-licensed wheels.
Marketed from $49.99, the Audi R8 LMS was designed to a 1:16 scale for builders from 17 years old. Part of Audi’s more recent history, the R8 LMS was built to FIA GT3 specifications as the first model from Audi Sport customer racing which debuted in 2009. A V10 engine powered the vehicle to victory seven times at the Nürburgring 24 Hours as well as other championship titles.
The Mattel Brick Shop tribute to the R8 LMS focuses on the second generation model which ran from 2015 to 2024. Like the Avant RS2, it comes with a removable greenhouse roof, opening doors and an opening engine hatch. Inside the detailed interior, there is a functioning steering wheel which connects to the wheels. The build can be customized with interchangeable decals, splitters, spoilers and an included extra set of metal wheel covers.
Both models are now available for pre-order but fans attending the Hot Wheels Legends Tour in El Segundo, October 4 will be able to see the new products through an interactive experience.
Speaking at the launch of the Mattel Brick Shop earlier this year, Roberto Stanichi, executive vice president, global head of vehicles and building sets at Mattel explained: “Hot Wheels has fuelled the passion of car enthusiasts for generations, and with Mattel Brick Shop, we’re giving fans an entirely new way to engage with their favourite vehicles.
“This Hot Wheels collection by Mattel Brick Shop delivers what car fans have been clamouring for: buildable vehicles that deliver true car authenticity. Our design team meticulously recreated these vehicles in brick form while preserving what made them great in the first place, including real metal parts and a matching exclusive die-cast, giving fans a new way to collect, build, and play.”
