United is the first U.S. carrier to resume daily flights to Israel after a month—even as the State Department warns citizens to “reconsider travel” to Israel due to “terrorism and civil unrest.”
Key Facts
United Airlines will restart service between Newark Liberty International Airport and Tel Aviv with a single flight on July 21, the carrier announced Tuesday, with twice-daily flights resuming the following day.
“This resumption is in line with United’s longstanding commitment to serving Tel Aviv,” United said in a statement, adding, “Throughout 2025, United has flown to Tel Aviv more than any other U.S. airline.”
On June 14, the U.S. State Department authorized the voluntary departure of family members and non-emergency U.S. government employees due to the volatile and unpredictable security situation in the region.
A State Department travel advisory cautions U.S. citizens to “reconsider travel to Israel due to terrorism and civil unrest,” language that correlates to a Level 3 advisory on a scale where Level 4 is a “do not travel” warning.
American Airlines “continuously evaluates its network and we have nothing new to share at this time regarding Tel Aviv service,” according to a spokesperson for the carrier, adding that anyone “planning travel to Israel can purchase tickets on aa.com on flights operated by our partner airlines that serve Tel Aviv.”
Delta Air Lines did not respond to Forbes’ inquiry into when it plans to resume service to Israel.
When Did U.s. Airlines Suspend Service To Israel?
United last flew to Tel Aviv on June 11. A day later, Israel’s bombing campaign against Iran caused the carrier to turn a flight back enroute to Tel Aviv. Delta also suspended its Israel service at that time. In the weeks since, the Middle East airspace has largely reopened, but the corridor between Israel and Iran remains high risk if the conflict resumes, according to Safe Airspace. Two Israeli airlines, EL AL and Arkia, are currently operating flights between Israel and the U.S.
When Will United Begin Selling Flights Between Newark And Tel Aviv?
Ticket sales for flights to and from Tel Aviv became available for purchase on the United Airlines website Tuesday.
What We Don’t Know
How long the ceasefires in Israel will last. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Donald Trump met Monday for the third time this year and took a proverbial victory lap after joint strikes on Iran, which has demanded accountability for the attacks. Meanwhile, Israel’s 21-month war against Hamas in Gaza remains tenuous. Trump has characterized the Gaza ceasefire talks as “going along very well,” the BBC reported, despite no breakthrough in the latest round of communications between Israel and Hamas in Qatar.

On Monday, Netanyahu presented Trump with a letter nominating him for the Nobel Peace Prize, an honor the U.S. president has publicly lobbied for. Netanyahu wrote Trump has “demonstrated steadfast and exceptional dedication to promoting peace, security and stability around the world,” and citing Trump’s “vision and bold leadership promoted innovative diplomacy defined not by conflict,” but by “cooperation.”
