Miami Swim Week, The Shows is always a vibe. There are bikinis, palm trees, the beach, tons of photographers, celebrities and of course, traffic.
It isn’t as chaotic as Art Basel Miami Beach, but it does have buzz. Needless to say, it’s always an entertaining part of the annual fashion calendar. You’ll find catwalks propped up over Miami hotel pools. This year’s edition ran from May 28 to June 1 in Miami Beach.
The founder Moh Ducis held this year’s spectacle at the Mondrian South Beach Hotel and their onsite Baia Beach Club Miami, and the event featured over 50 events and over 150 international and national designers.
The focus was to showcase cutting edge styles on the runway, with a priority given to women-led brands, while giving back through foundations, charities and other outreach efforts. Here are some highlights you missed in Miami Beach.
Everlast
The athletic brand Everlast honored its boxing legacy with a first-ever swimwear design competition. The brand tapped five up-and-coming designers and allowed them to interpret the brand’s legacy on the runway. The collections were designed by LeLINZI, Kene Kaya, MERC Swim, Electric Picks and Sovereign Society Couture. A lot of boxing gloves were on the runway, so were sporty swimwear styles. Next up, Everlast is opening their flagship store in Miami next year, so stay tuned.
Montage Swimwear
Montage Swimwear, founded by Bryan Skowronek, launched with 12 capsule collections designed by models. The swimwear aims to empower models and industry tastemakers by putting the design power into their hands. One notable collection was designed by Selling Sunset powerhouse Bre Tiesi, another cute collection was designed by Ivy Bagley, who brings a touch of Parisian chic to a vintage-inspired swim collection.
Melissa Odabash
The Bass Museum of Art, a cutting-edge contemporary art museum in Miami (which has a fabulous exhibition right now by Assume Vivid Astro Focus), hosted Melissa Odabash’s 25 anniversary collection of swimwear and resort wear. Inspired by the 1970s glamor, the glitzy, gold and earthtone-hued collection paid tribute to the designer’s mother.
Delarose Sisters
The fun, girly, pink-loving Delarose Sisters recycle fabrics for their swimwear. They just launched their latest collection, which fuses together a pastel hot girl summer with retro glam. Co-founded by Ivana and Valentina Delarose, this British duo are also DJs who have performed at Miami Music Week. Lady Code cosmetics founder Lisa Opie walked the runway.
Live Kolibri
Live Kolibri is a lifestyle brand with a sustainable purpose, designing swimwear for a cleaner planet. The brand’s co-founder and creative director is Dallas-based Alexandra Vidger, who has a passion for using recycled materials. Showcasing both menswear and womenswear, one highlight from the runway was when actor Rachel Pizzolato did a cartwheel down the catwalk.
Lascana
The brand Lascana is a fashion, swim and lingerie brand which comes from Hamburg, Germany, first founded in 2006, but is now based in Florida. Some of their latest stylish items include colorful bikinis, cut-out one pieces and patterned pieces that call to mind a beach paradise.
Augustnoa
Though they didn’t have a runway show, they’re still worth mentioning: augustnoa is a cool accessories brand known for their Weekender Duffel Bag, recently worn by tennis WAG, Morgan Riddle. The brand also has backpacks, jewelry organizers, pouch sets and tote bags.
