The Met Gala kicked off on the rainy first Monday in May. This year’s theme is “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” One of fashion’s biggest nights celebrates black dandyism. This year, the event is chaired by Anna Wintour and co-chaired by Colman Domingo, Pharrell Williams, A$AP Rocky and Lewis Hamilton. LeBron James is also an honorary co-chair; however, the basketball star will not be in attendance due to a knee injury.
This year’s Met Gala also has a host committee including members such as André 3000, Doechii, Ayo Edebiri, Jeremy O. Harris, Spike Lee, Tonya Lewis Lee, Audra McDonald, Janelle Monáe, Angel Reese, Sha’Carri Richardson, Tyla, Usher and Kara Walker.
The red carpet started at 5:30 p.m., and many musicians showed up to showcase their exciting themed outfits.
Teyana Taylor
Singer-songwriter Teyana Taylor made a show stopping early arrival on the carpet in a red and grey suit.
Allen René Louis
Composer Allen René Louis graced the carpet to conduct a chorus of dandies. The choir sang a version of “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.”
Pharrell Williams
Accompanied by fashion designer Helen Lasichanh, the gala committee member arrived in custom Louis Vuitton pearl jacket.
Evan Ross and Diana Ross
Accompanied by her son, Diana Ross wore a larger than life white gown with her children and grandchildren’s names on it. The legendary singer had previously not attended a Met Gala since 2003.
