On Thursday, Tesla revealed a new $69,990 Long-Range Rear-Wheel Drive version of the Cybertruck with June-July delivery in the U.S.
Tesla lists it with 350 miles of range, the longest range of any Cybertruck to date.
Tax credit drops price to $62,490 – but still a lot more than original price
The new $69,990 Long-Range trim beats the $79,990 All-Wheel Drive by $10,000 – which had been the least expensive CT to date. The tri-motor Cyberbeast is still priced at an eye-watering $99,990. With the $7,500 federal tax credit, the Long-Range drops to $62,490. It should be noted that CEO Elon Musk said the Cybertruck would start at $39,000 back in 2019 for the RWD version. At that time, he also said the mid-range dual-motor (aka AWD) would be around $49,900 and the top-of-the-line trim would be around $69,900.
The new stripped-down Cybertruck
But make no mistake the new Long-Range trim is a minimalist Cybertruck. Most prominently, the new CT’s powertrain is a single rear-wheel drive motor versus the existing dual-motor AWD and tri-motor Cyberbeast. Other lower-spec’d features include towing capacity, acceleration, audio, and truck bed.
- Long-Range trim powertrain: single rear-wheel drive motor vs dual motor on AWD and tri-motor on Cyberbeast.
- Long-Range trim towing: 7,500 pounds vs 11,000 pounds on AWD and Cyberbeast.
- Long-Range trim acceleration: 0-60 in 6.2 seconds vs 4.1 seconds on AWD and 2.6 seconds for Cyberbeast.
- Long-Range trim interior: “textile seats” vs “premium interior” on AWD and Cyberbeast.
- Long-Range trim audio: 7 speakers vs 15 speakers on AWD and Cyberbeast trims.
- Long-Range trim display: only single first row 18.5” display vs first row 18.5” display and second row 9.4” display on AWD and Cyberbeast.
- Long-Range trim rear bed: standard bed upgradeable with soft tonneau vs vault bed with motorized tonneau cover on AWD and Cyberbeast.
- Long-Range trim power outlets: no power outlets in the bed vs 2x 120V, 1x 240V on the AWD and Cyberbeast.
- Long-Range trim suspension: no adaptive air suspension, which comes on the AWD and Cyberbeast.
But the Long-Range version does have other standard features that are common across all Cybertruck variants including 8 exterior cameras (including a new front-facing camera), a powered frunk, and wrap-around ambient lighting.
Cybertruck Q1 sales drop sharply from Q4
Cybertruck sales in the first quarter of 2025 took a nosedive to 6,406 vehicles from the fourth quarter of 2024 when sales were 12,991, according to figures released Thursday by Cox Automotive. Sales were up over the first quarter of last year but that’s not an apt comparison since Cybertruck deliveries were just getting underway at that time and supply was limited.
