Sofia Carson’s star power, combined with an emotional story of loss, self-discovery, romantic comedy, and family drama, has propelled The Life List to the No. 1 spot on Netflix’s Global Top 10, with viewership growing by almost five million in its second week. The film has also held the top position in the U.S. since its March 28 debut, amassing a total 53.6 million views – so far.
The romantic dramedy, based on Lori Nelson Spielman’s bestselling novel of the same name, follows Alex Rose (Carson), a young woman feeling stuck in a rut. Encouraged by her mother, played by Connie Britton (The White Lotus, Friday Night Lights), Alex embarks on a journey to complete the items on her childhood bucket list.
What begins as a simple quest soon transforms into a life-changing adventure, forcing Alex to reevaluate her priorities. The film’s heartfelt message resonated with viewers, perhaps even inspiring many to reflect on their own bucket lists and consider pursuing long-forgotten dreams or goals.
This marks Carson’s second Netflix hit in less than a year. Her action thriller Carry-On held the No. 1 spot for four consecutive weeks, remaining in the Global Top 10 for an additional four weeks. To date, the film has racked up 172.1 million views, making it Netflix’s second most-watched film.
The multi-platinum recording artist has solidified her status as a bankable star for Netflix. Her 2022 film Purple Hearts, co-starring Nicholas Galitzine, was one of the platform’s most-watched films of the year. The project also allowed Carson to merge her passions for music and acting while earning her first executive producer credit.
Carson’s partnership with Netflix continues to thrive, with another romance, My Oxford Year, on the horizon. She also served as an executive producer for the film, which is expected to release sometime in 2025, as hinted by Carson during a December interview.
