Innies and outies everywhere, rejoice! Kier be praised! Lumon is truly good and beneficent and there is no fear of pain in our severed future. Today, Apple announced that Severance has been renewed for a third season.
Via the press release:
All appears to be well at Lumon Industries. On the heels of the second season of “Severance” breaking records as the most-watched series on Apple TV+, the global phenomenon and Emmy and Peabody Award-winning hit thriller has been renewed for a third season. Hailing from executive producer and director Ben Stiller and starring Emmy Award nominee Adam Scott, Britt Lower, Tramell Tillman, Zach Cherry, Jen Tullock, Michael Chernus, Dichen Lachman, Emmy Award winner John Turturro, Academy Award winner Christopher Walken and Academy and Emmy Award winner Patricia Arquette. Since its widely celebrated debut, “Severance” has been consistently hailed as “one of the best TV shows of the past decade,” a “cultural phenomenon” and “the best thing on TV.”
I’m pretty sure that last quote is from yours truly, as I’ve called the show “the best thing on TV” about three dozen times at this point. Even though Season 2 wasn’t quite as perfect as the first, it’s still the best thing on TV (there, I said it again!) and the Season 2 finale was a revelation.
The cast and creators of the show have some fun quotations for us via the press release as well.
“Making ‘Severance’ has been one of the most creatively exciting experiences I’ve ever been a part of,” said executive producer and director Ben Stiller. “While I have no memory of this, I’m told making season three will be equally enjoyable, though any recollection of these future events will be forever and irrevocably wiped from my memory as well.”
“I couldn’t be more excited to get back to work with Ben, Dan, the incredible cast & crew, Apple and the whole ‘Severance’ team,” said star and executive producer Adam Scott. “Oh hey also – not a huge deal – but if you see my innie, please don’t mention any of this to him. Thanks.”
“The idea of getting to make more ‘Severance’ with the greatest cast and crew on Earth is more thrilling to me than all the world’s finger traps combined,” said creator, writer and executive producer Dan Erickson. “I can’t wait to continue spreading woe, frolic, dread and malice with these truly incredible people.”
Clearly these guys aren’t having any fun at all making this incredible series.
In any case, there’s no word on when the new season will come out or even when it’s set to begin filming, but hopefully we don’t see another three-year gap between seasons. Waiting will be hard enough after that wild cliffhanger ending.
