The Florida Swing concludes with the Valspar Championship, a “Most Fan-First Event” recognized by the PGA Tour in Palm Harbor just NE of Tampa. The event follows last week’s Players Championship and Rory McIlroy’s second win of the year. This week’s tournament at Innisbrook Resort will find windier conditions to navigate on the tree-lined Copperhead course.
A stronger field for a non-signature event includes 16 of the top 35 players in the world golf rankings with some of the top golfers from last week’s Players Championship.
Valspar Championship Invitational
- Innisbrook Resort – Copperhead Course
- 7,352-yards, Par 71 (36-hole cut)
- March 20-23, Palm Harbor, Florida
- Purse – $8.7 million ($1.6 million winner)

72-Hole Winning Score: Over/Under 269.5 (Par 71)
Notable players from the 155-player field who had success in last year’s event with a top-10 finish include longshot winner Peter Malnati at greater than 100/1 odds plus Cameron Young (2nd), Chandler Phillips (T3), Xander Schauffele (T5), Adam Hadwin (T5), Christiaan Bezuidenhout (T9). Schauffele was the +650 favorite last year and he’s +1800 this year while struggling in two events since returning from a rib injury.
Taylor Moore won this event in 2023 at 80/1 odds, and San Burns won at 100/1 odds in 2021 and then won it again in 2022. Other past winners include Adam Hadwin (2017), Jordan Spieth (2015) and Gary Woodland (2011).
As you evaluate the field and strokes gained stats, know that while Copperhead is a positional golf course that forces many layups off the tee and strong Approach play, it still requires solid Off-the-Tee skills with narrow fairways that are harder to hold. Shot-makers and ball strikers excel across a course with significant elevation changes.
