The Roundtree, Amagansett is a one-of-a-kind luxury retreat on Amagansett’s historic Main Street.
A stay offers the experience of being at a private beach house— without the responsibilities of home ownership or financial commitment of a summer rental. This makes it an ideal Hamptons getaway for anyone who doesn’t own property at one of Long Island’s posh beach towns but wishes they did.
Amagansett is a quaint 6.6 square-mile hamlet that is part of the larger town of East Hampton. The town’s relaxed coffee houses, restaurants, shops and boutiques are just a few steps from The Roundtree.
The settlers who came to Amagansett in the late 17th century were primarily farmers and fishermen. This rich heritage is reflected in the area’s local cuisine, although the exclusive area is better known today for its magnificent oceanfront homes and secluded estates.
The pristine shingled buildings behind a white picket fence at The Roundtree only hint at their long history, but one of its cottages dates back 250 years.
Inside The Roundtree
From the moment guests drive down the pebbled driveway and check in at reception, the property’s ambiance is friendly, welcoming and understated, much like the town of Amagansett.
With only 14 units (most of which are on ground level with no lobbies or elevators), the independently-owned accommodations feel intimate and private, the antithesis of a chain hotel.
An expansive backyard with inviting hammocks, lounges, and firepits sits between two working farms, offering serenity and unobstructed views. This beautifully landscaped area is accessible by a path that connects the Main House, Cottages, and The Barn.
Guests can book elegant guest rooms or stand-alone cottages. Two- and three-bedroom units can comfortably accommodate families or friends. The private setting is also conducive to a whole property takeover for special events like weddings.
All interiors have been gut-renovated and tastefully restored with stylish and comfortable contemporary furnishings with clean lines, natural materials, and an appealing mix of Scandinavian and mid-century modern sensibilities. The walls are lined with multimedia artwork and beautiful photography. High-speed internet is complimentary.
The plush white beds are covered with Frette linens and stacks of Matouk towels are in each spacious bathroom with oversized stall showers. Guests receive nightly turndown service.
The move-in ready units with kitchens have sleek, built-in Miele appliances, fully outfitted with Nespresso coffee machines, dinnerware, glassware, pots, pans and cooking tools. Some units have fireplaces and pullout sofas.
Because The Roundtree operates on a mostly-inclusive model, guests never feel nickel and dimed. In-room mini bars offer unlimited bottles of Saratoga waters (sparkling and still) and soft drinks. Locally-sourced snacks and seasonal fruit are also available in the room, but guests with late night munchies can request delivery of home-baked chocolate cookies and buttered popcorn.
While there is no on-site restaurant, guests will never go hungry. The Roundtree is surrounded by excellent restaurants in Amagansett and its surrounding towns that showcase the seafood and farm fresh bounty of the region.
Complimentary continental breakfasts (including freshly squeezed juices, brewed coffee, breads, pastries, seasonal fruits, and more) are included in the room rates. They are sourced from nearby Il Buco al Mare, an outpost of the NYC restaurant and can be delivered to cottages or eaten outdoors (weather permitting), in a communal garden area with heat lamps.
An Oasis For Relaxation & Exploration
The rooms and public spaces at The Roundtree are so comfortable and cozy that it’s tempting to never leave the grounds. Reading enthusiasts will especially appreciate the curated selection of books in each room. But whatever the season, nature and the outdoors beckon as well as nearby attractions.
Only one mile from the property, the soft, white sand Amagansett beaches are devoid of crowds and provide panoramic vistas of dunes and the Atlantic Ocean. Beach parking permits for cars, ordinarily reserved for town residents, are made available to guests. However, many opt to walk to the beaches or ride the hotel’s complimentary cruiser bicycles.
The region offers an abundance of things to do, including visits to the Montauk Lighthouse, the Quogue Wildlife Refuge, the Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill, Gurney’s Spa, the Children’s Museum in Bridgehampton, the boutiques at East Hampton, tastings and tours at local breweries and wineries, and more.
Bespoke Service At The Roundtree
Personalized service is a hallmark of The Roundtree experience. From the moment guests arrive, staff who know their names, are helpful, friendly, and quick to respond, typically replying to text messages within minutes. They can assist with any requests, including a ride to the beach, luggage assistance, dog walking, or making dinner reservations.
In essence, The Roundtree offers a truly unique Hamptons experience that combines luxury amenities and bespoke service with the unpretentious comfort and charm of a storied beach town.
