Taylor Swift is headed for the No. 1 spot on albums charts all over the world in a few days. The singer dropped her latest collection of original material, The Tortured Poets Department, on Friday (April 19), and in the days since, it’s become a sales and streaming juggernaut. As that title aims for the highest rung on tallies everywhere, Swift already rules the albums ranking in one nation…but not with this latest offering.
In Australia, Swift dominates the albums chart with Lover. Her beloved pop project shoots from No. 4 to No. 1 down under, returning to the summit.
Lover has now ruled the ARIA albums chart for three nonconsecutive frames. The title first reached the throne in 2019, the year it was released. Swift then pushed the project back to No. 1 earlier this year, as her The Eras Tour headed to the nation.
As Lover returns to the highest rung on the album chart in Australia, Swift replaces her friend Beyoncé. Last frame, that star’s latest offering Cowboy Carter controlled the tally for a second consecutive frame. Now, that title is down to No. 9.
Lover ascends to the top of the ARIA albums chart just one week before Swift is sure to conquer it again. Her new album The Tortured Poets Department is destined to debut at No. 1 on this same tally next Friday (April 26).
As is always the case, Swift claims more than one spot on the ranking of the most-consumed albums in Australia. The superstar fills half of all the spaces inside the top 10, with almost all of those wins rising from where they ranked last time around.
Looking at the full 50-spot chart, Swift’s name appears in nine spaces. That’s nearly one-fifth, or 20%, of the entire ranking. For any other musician, that would be a nearly unbelievable coup…but for Swift, it’s just another week.
