King Charles III’s youngest brother, Prince Edward, is attending a royal visit to one of the world’s most remote islands, St Helena.
Embarking on a four-day journey, the Duke of Edinburgh is the first member of the royal family to visit the island since The Princess Royal visited in 2002.
During his time in St Helena, Prince Edward will attend a public event on the Grand Parade of the island’s historic Georgian capital, Jamestown, and meet members of the local community, including the island’s resident 192-year-old tortoise, Jonathan.
Jonathan, a Seychelles tortoise, is reported to be the oldest living land animal in the world with an estimated birthdate in 1832. He has lived on the St Helena since the 1880s and has met a number of members of the Royal Family during his 142 years there including King George VI, Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Margaret and The Queen Mother.
