Jennie’s recent solo single “One of the Girls” has been growing in popularity around the world for quite some time. Now, after weeks of improving its stream count and selling well–for a tune that’s already been out for months–the title has finally reached the most important music chart in America.
“One of the Girls” debuts on this week’s Hot 100, Billboard’s ranking of the most-consumed songs in the U.S. The tune barely makes the chart, as it opens at No. 100–in last place.
It took years, but Jennie has finally reached the Hot 100 as a solo artist. “One of the Girls” marks her first placement on the tally on her own–apart from Blackpink, the band that made her a global superstar.
Jennie’s hit isn’t entirely a solo affair, but she is credited as Jennie and not Blackpink, which is new to the singer–at least when it comes to the Hot 100. The track is a collaboration between the K-pop superstar, The Weeknd, and actor and singer Lily Rose Depp.
“One of the Girls” was released as a single from the TV show The Idol. The tune is fronted by The Weeknd, who created the series and also starred in it. Jennie was featured in several episodes of the now-canceled program, so she was heavily involved in it. Now, she’s scored her first proper smash thanks to her work on the series.
The cut may be new to the Hot 100, but it has spent months bouncing around several other Billboard charts. The cut has previously appeared on a number of other lists, such as the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, Rhythmic Airplay, and a handful of R&B-specific rankings as well.
As a member of Blackpink, Jennie has already landed on the Hot 100 several times, so she’s not entirely new to the tally. The South Korean girl group has thus far placed nine tunes on the chart. That still stands as the second-most wins on the list among South Korean musical acts.
