One Hawaiian-style mainstay raised more than $30,000 over the weekend in its Musubi for Maui effort to assist those affected by the devastating fire that destroyed historic Lahaina.
The Pacific Islander connection
Seattle and the Puget Sound region is home to many transplants from the Hawaiian islands. The city is home to an extensive assortment of restaurants offering a taste of the 808 in the form of plate lunches and poke.
At mobile-food-truck-turned wildly successful restaurant group, founders Roz Edison and Kamala Sexton have been musubi enthusiasts from the get-go. The grilled Spam on seasoned rice snack is the ultimate comfort food for many.
That’s why it was so fitting when Marination announced its Musubi for Maui fundraising effort days after news of the horrific wildfires broke. As the search continues for victims — the count now topping 100 — many in the restaurant community have been looking for ways to help.
The final tally of the weekend’s sales was impressive considering the quick turnaround time on planning and execution. More than 3,000 orders of musubi were sold. The proceeds were bolstered by a donation from a local family bringing the total raised to more than $30,000. That’s a lot of aloha!
Those funds will be donated to the Maui Rapid Response and the Hawaiian Council.
