One of the most stressful parts of flying can be ensuring your luggage departs and arrives with you and that it’s fit to fly. If you’ve ever been on a full flight, you may have heard the gate agents ask people to check their rolling bags at the gate. So, it may be no surprise that one airline recently admitted to rewarding agents who charge passengers for oversized luggage.
Frontier Airlines Rewards Agents Who Charge For Oversized Luggage
After a traveler’s video went viral, Frontier Airlines admitted to the U.K.-based newspaper The Independent that employees are paid for charging for oversized baggage. The representative for Frontier added that the fee is there to help agents maintain fairness and enforce their compliance policies.
According to Frontier’s baggage guidelines, one personal item is allowed, free of charge. However, it must be 14″ H x 18″ W x 8″ D, including the handles, wheels and straps, and will be checked (and may be subject to an additional fee) during boarding. According to the video, the passengers had baggage that fit the standards yet were charged $100.
The baggage guidelines also encourage paying for baggage earlier rather than later, as fees may be higher if you wait to pay when checking in.
Summary
Frontier Airlines is a budget airline based out of Denver, Colorado. It flies to more than 100 destinations throughout the United States and over 30 international destinations. While this news may give you pause, it’s always a good idea to check baggage policies to know what to expect (and what to contest if needed).
