With the imminent release of the Resident Evil 4 remake almost upon us, we now have a lovely retro anime trailer for the game.
Specifically, the trailer was done by Nippon Animation in the style of their World Masterpiece Theater series. So much so that the trailer is called the Resident Evil Masterpiece Theater.
If you are unfamiliar with this classic anime series, it was the precursor to anime such as Heidi, Girl of the Alps, with the latter directed by Isao Takahata of Studio Ghibli fame.
This kind of call back to classic anime, such as with Heidi and World Masterpiece Theater, is actually something that happens a lot in Japan nowadays. With various companies using the setup for advertising, often with hilarious results.
This is no different in that regard, as a very cute Leon enters the Mysterious Village to find Ashley, only to get an axe in his head for all his trouble.
If you are at all curious about this new Resident Evil 4 remake, it’s reviewing very well and is definitely worth a look if you missed out on the original game. Although, the number of times the original game has been ported, I would be surprised to find anyone who has not played it before.
Resident Evil 4 is released for the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S and PC on March 24.
